International Criminal Law and ecocide as an international crime with Nicole Citeroni.
Following recent calls for action by human rights institutions to criminalise and prosecute #ecocide, it is more important than ever to shed light on this controversial notion and its potential qualification as the fifth international crime in the #RomeStatute. This lecture will provide a general overview of the context in which the idea of qualifying the most serious crimes against the #environment as international crimes has emerged. It will then focus on the legal definitions of ecocide proposed so far and the open questions arising from them, before discussing their potential application to the #conflict in Ukraine.
